Staff Profile of the Unit


The Unit is currently under the Directorship of Professor Eric F. Oteng-Abayie (PhD).

Professor Eric F. Oteng-Abayie (PhD) is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at KNUST, Ghana. He has experience in teaching, research, and management consulting. He started his academic career as the first full-time Lecturer at Garden City University College in 2005. He acted as the Head of GCUC School of Business until April 2008. Between 2005 and 2008, he served as Programmes Coordinator and Examinations Officer. 

He has worked on projects with the Ministry of Finance (Tax Policy Unit, GOGGIG), Ministry of Energy, African Centre for Economic Transformation (ACET), GIZ, DFID, Tax Justice Coalition, OSIWA, GHAMFIN, ARB APEX Bank, Rural Banks, BSU, Energy Centre-KNUST, and Economic Commission of Africa (UNECA), among others. Prof Oteng-Abayie has also published articles on financial economics, macroeconomics, and energy, among others. His current research focuses on PFM and taxation, energy and utility regulation, and choice modelling and experiments. He teaches courses in intermediate microeconomics, development microeconomics, research methods in economics, and energy economics.

Prof Oteng-Abayie belongs to several professional bodies such as International Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association (HELT) where he is an exemplary Country Delegate. He is also a member of the Academy of African Business and Development (AABD), Royal Economics Society, UK, Economics Society, Ghana, Ghana Monitoring and Evaluation Forum (GMEF), and African Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AFAERE).

He is chairman and member of several committees in higher education, including curriculum development, quality assurance, online learning management systems (LMS) and technologies, and institutional and program accreditation. He serves on the Ghana Technical Education Commission (GTEC) as a panel member and subject matter expert in Economics and Business. He has contributed to shaping curriculum in several Universities in Ghana, including Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Cape Coast, Garden City University College, University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Kings University College, Central University College, Methodist University College, University of Development Studies, Wa, Christ Apostolic University College among others., He is also an external examiner for several Universities, including the University of Cape Coast (UCC), the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), University of South Africa (UNISA), WITS Business School, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, among others.



John A. T. Williams-Walker

Williams-Walker is an Assistant Registrar. As the Quality Assurance Officer, he assures and controls standards in the University College. 

Williams-Walker has worked in the Quality Assurance office since 2015 and has contributed to the success of the University College through this office and committees he served.

Williams-Walker a strategic young man with strong interpersonal, communication, problem solving and decision-making skills. He has the ability to establish and maintain strong alliances, lead and motivate teams, drive projects to successful completion, meet and exceed management expectations, and achieve results from a pool of knowledge in Planning, Quality Assurance and experience in managing people, programmes and facilities.

Williams-Walker holds a Master of Science in Development Planning and Management from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and aspires to begin a Doctor of Philosophy in Quality Assurance in the very nearest future. He seeks to bring on board such ideas into the higher education industry, where he hopes to contribute to the reconciliation of immerging issues.

He has attended several quality assurance related workshops to enhance his skills in what he does. Amongst the workshops he has attended includes:

  • Research and module development (2021) organised by the Association of African Universities
  • Improving quality through effective measurement and evaluation (2018) organized by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology
  • Liaison Committee workshop on quality related issues (2017), organized by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology
  • 21st Century Quality Assurance Knowledge and Skill (2017), organized by the Association of African Universities
  • Data Management (2017), organized by the National Council for Tertiary Education

These and among several other workshops/seminars organized by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission have added to the pool of knowledge he has.
