BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The philosophy of Garden City University College is to train leaders who will be practically and professionally informed and at the same time be morally tuned to the total needs of society. The mission of Garden City University College is to “develop the next generation of innovators”. The aim of the School of Business is to produce innovative, well-grounded and well-rounded business executives, analysts and entrepreneurs who can meet the challenges of our time and serve as agents for social change in an increasingly sophisticated global village.

The programs are specifically designed to provide the basic foundation for future professional and academic development.

The Bachelor of Science programs of the School of Business are four-year programs aimed at producing qualified management personnel, accounting and financial professionals for government, industry and private enterprise.

The Bachelor of Science programs requires 146 credit hours divided into 8 semesters of course work, project work, student internship and a management seminar.

EMPLOYMENT PROSPECTS OF GRADUATES

There is no doubt about the huge demand for high and middle level management personnel and financial professionals in various organizations and the public service in Ghana . The content and structure of the program are such that they will prepare students to either readily find jobs in the market or start their own businesses or pursue further academic and professional courses.

A.     Senior High School Certificate

 Senior High School Certificate Examination (SHSCE) admission requirements; passes in three CORE SUBJECTS; ENGLISH, MATHEMATICS and INTEGRATED SCIENCE and three electives with an aggregate score of 24 or better in WAEC Senior High School Certificate Examinations. 

B.  General Certificate of Education -GCE

For candidates who possess the General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.), the admission     requirements are:

a.    FIVE Ordinary Level passes in General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.) Examination or its equivalent including English Language and Mathematics; and<!--[endif]-->

b.   THREE passes at the Advanced Level in General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.) Examination or its equivalent (one of which should be grade D or better).

C.        Mature Students

a.   A matured student must

i.       Be at least 25 years

ii.      Have a relevant professional or work experience, or

iii.     Have authored some work in relevant field.

b.   The applicant must have five (5) credit passes including Mathematics and English language in the WAEC General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level Examination.  Applicants should have three years working experience and must pass and aptitude test administered by the University College.

D.    Post - Diploma Degree etc.

Candidates with GCE Ordinary level or SSSCE plus any of the following qualifications in the relevant area will be admitted to Year 2.

a          Diploma from a recognized University.

b.      Higher National Diploma with 2 years work experience (at least a Second Class Upper Division).

c.         Transfer from a recognized university

E.      Foreign Students

Foreign students may be considered for admission if they hold qualifications equivalent to those stated above, provided they are proficient in English Language.

D.    Post - Diploma Degree etc.

Candidates with GCE Ordinary level or SSSCE plus any of the following qualifications in the relevant area will be admitted to Year 2.

a         Diploma from a recognized University.

b.      Higher National Diploma with 2 years work experience (at least a Second Class Upper Division).

c.         Transfer from a recognized university

E.     Foreign Students
