Language- a system of communication by written or spoken words, which is used by the people of a particular country or area. Today, French language has become a pillar in the livelihood of people both in business and domestic activities and for this cause, the French Students Association of Garden City University College honoured an invitation extended by the French Embassy via Alliance Français, Kumasi and actively took part in the Francophone Festival which started on Thursday 19th March, 2009.
The Francophone Festival is an annual global event of culture, education and socialization of French Speaking Countries and countries that have an attachment to the French community. It has its root through the establishment of Organization Internationale de la Francophone who set up the month of March for the Festival every year.
The French Students Association-GCUC participated to introduce the association and be recognized by the French society as a member as well as improve the Garden City University College and to take the opportunity of learning and finally getting to know people and groups of the French society who can be of help in the achievement of the aims of the association.
The festival was commenced with a Lecture talk on Francophone day, Poetry presentation by students of GCUC on Thursday 19th March, 2009. The association took part in a singing contest with other school and Miss Rachael Abankwa took the second place and received an award.
The mega Quiz on Francophone Culture took stage on Friday 27th March, 2009 in which two students of GCUC (Souleman Traore and Meshach Opoku-Ware) won an award at the quiz with KNUST taking the ultimate prize after an intriguing competition. The students from GCUC got the opportunity to be advised and educated on the language by French personalities from the embassy who were introduced at the event.
Saturday 28th March, 2009 was the Francophone Fun Fair where audience were entreated to an entertainment package which involved Live Band and dance, concert by Koo Nimo and performance by an invted group from Burkina Faso. There was a dance competition where GCUC also participated. Members of the French Students Association-GCUC got the opportunity to interact with personalities at the Alliance Français and some students of affiliate associations in Ghana, Burkina and Benin and French enthusiasts and professionals.
